Caution: Low Tide

Instead of curling
into a storm of foam
it slows,
folds into itself,
stretches
to a master sheet
of blue, lulling
the quizzical
shore, then
pulls back
—a wide-eyed tug
rising
to a wall—water
refusing to break.
